NSW: Man charged with attempted murder of hitchhiker
A Hunter Valley man is to appear in a New South Wales court today on attempted murder and
abduction charges after he allegedly threatened a female hitchiker with a gun.
Police say the 24-year-old Greta man was driving in the Metford area with another man when
they picked up a 25-year-old local woman who was hitchhiking about 12.45pm yesterday.
It's alleged the driver dropped off the man and drove the woman to an industrial area at
Rutherford where he threatened her with a firearm.
Police say the woman escaped and flagged down a nearby security vehicle.
A man charged with attempted murder, detaining a person for advantage and discharging a
firearm with intent to inflict grevious bodily harm, is to appear in Maitland Local Court.
